Portal Server Administration Link Missing...

I have recently experienced the an issue with IBM Portal Server 5.1. I have installed the Portal server and it was working fine, after few days i was experimenting with the theme which cost me a lot. After changing the theme when i came back to 'my portal', the administration link was no more available. After lods of google and other search, finally i found the solution to this issue. Sharing with you so that this could help you, if you are in similar situation. The solution is to Reset the theme setting using XMLAccess of the portal server.

Steps are as follows to reset the theme setting of Portal Server:
1. Start the portal server.
2. Go to command prompt \PortalServer\bin
3. Create a xml file inside the same folder (easy to use)
export.xml (export all administration label and pages) the content should be:

On command promt use:
command promt>xmlaccess.bat -in export.xml -user wpsadmin -user wpsadmin -url http://localhost:9081/wps/config -out adminpage.xml
Note:URL you need to replace with your system specific.

4. Next, modify the same export.xml replace the content with.

5. Execute following command
command prompt> xmlaccess.bat -in export.xml -user wpsadmin -user wpsadmin -url http://localhost:9081/wps/config -out themeSetting.xml
Note:URL you need to replace with your system specific.

6. Now search for content-node in adminpage.xml and then for wps.administration then change themeref to default theme object id.
7. Open the themeSetting.xml change the wps.theme.webSphere as default=true and make other theme as default=false.
8. Import both xml to server using following commands.
command prompt> xmlaccess.bat -in adminpage.xml -user wpsadmin -user wpsadmin -url http://localhost:9081/wps/config

command prompt> xmlaccess.bat -in themeSetting.xml -user wpsadmin -user wpsadmin -url http://localhost:9081/wps/config
Note:URL you need to replace with your system specific.

9. Re-start you portal server, you could see you administration link is back.

All the best !! and leave your comments.

are you working with unknown?

when i or you work in India, we don't know the person sits next you always. There are many people, there are many projects and we don't bother to know each other and ultimately gives you a feeling that you working with the unknown people, unknown faces. Which is completely different here in France. When i came here and i have worked in 2 different offices and i have seen and felt a very good gesture by all the employees. all of them even even they dont know me, Came and greet me, and most importantly every day, Which makes you feel that you know every one and you feel that you working with known people know faces. This is very small thing which makes me think how important is the ice-breaker words are, or we name it as greetings "Good morning" "Good day" "Hi" "Hello". We just need these words to make you feel differently and give you different work environment, a friendly environment.

The scenario i am talking may not be same in all the companies there. Because when i was working for Eka Software Solutions, CDAC, it was not the case, there i was knowing almost all of them. But in big multinationals we have this issue, working with unknown. you may give argument that how many people you will greet if there are more then 3 thousand employee. But certainly we can greet the people around the work place. They may not be many.

This one good thing about the work culture here in clermont-ferrand, ATOS offices and Logica Offices.

Write your comments, specially if you disagree with me.

Railway Strike..

Strike ! Strike! -a word we hear more in India, when ever any thing happens our leader calls a strike to protest or even support the cause some time. Well, you may be among us who think that it happens only in India. But its not true, yesterday i have faced a Train Strike here in Clermont-Ferrand,France. The Drivers of SNCF went on a Strike for one day. It completely paralyzed the public transport, we had to take Taxi to reach office.

Diwali away from home...

I am not in among the people who celebrates diwali with bang, but yes i love Diwali festival for its cleanliness every where and smell of nature instead of anything else. This time and first time i am out side India and i felt very sad and didn't get the feeling of this festival. I missed it all together.

One thing which made me happy that all my friends and relatives has wished me by phone, mail, instant messages. Even i am far away from them here in Clermont-Ferrand, France. Made me feel connected to my home my place my country.

Wish you, Happy Diwali.

No-Frills AC Train - Garib Rath

The concept of no-frills airlines has created a revolution in Indian airline industry. I am very impressed with Indian Railways effort to use the same concept and come up with Garib-Rath. Recently i have travel from this train to delhi. Garib-Rath Trains having all 3-tier Ac coaches only and fairs are discounted by more then 50% the 3AC fair of a express trains for same distance. This as branded for common people. I think it is more benefited the middle class people who cant afford the 3AC fairs of Express trains. And the most important factor of these trains are....Indian railways is not doing any charity by offering low-cost AC ride for commong people. What Indian railways has done is following things to make is reality without a loss. Have look at these :

1. The long distance train will be having more then 16 Coaches, which is more then the regular express trains.

2. There is no pantry car, only mini patry which gets the item to sell from coming stations.

3. No Beding. That means no bedsheet, no blanket, no towel, no pillow. if you want you need to pay.

4. And there is a 3 tier every where even in side as well. (This going to come in all trains as well, but for now all garib rath is having by default). So each compartment will be having 9 passengers insteed of 8 in traditional express trains.
5. Last but not least, the end part of coach which generally used to be left a space for luggages in express train, In this train there are one small companrtment with 3 bed.
I appreciate the effot of Indian railways to come up with this concept. Have happy journey in GaribRath (The Poor people's vechile) NOT EXACTLY :)

am committed;

I got engaged on 11th May 2008. My marital status changed from Single to Committed. Every one is excited about this day; even I was waiting for this day. So thought of writing blog to keep this day alive for forever. Let me introduce her, She is Madu, she is from Bhagalpur, Bihar. She is postgraduate in Computer Science. She works for techbook, NewDelhi. …shall I introduce myself :)

Due to work load in office I got only 2 day leave for my engagement so I started on Friday evening to my native (Khagaria, Bihar, only 2500 KM from Bangalore) with fear that I will be able to reach before Sunday. Luckily flight didn’t make any delay thanks to Indigo airline…and then train was on time and reached mokameh junction on time… the connecting train to my native was also on time …simply great… shall I thank Mr. Laloo ji :) well thanks to Indian railways… I reached home Saturday afternoon in less then 24 hours.

At home Mummy, papa and my brother Nilesh was very busy with shopping and arranging all required for the day. I helped them in shopping but for very few things they have already done most of the shopping.  Our plan was, we all will go from home to Bhagalour and we have also asked our relative there to join us in function. So in Saturday evening started calling again to all of them to remind and to request them to be on time.

Sunday the 11th May 2008 morning, we all rushed to get ready and start from home, we arrange every thing called the booked rental MUV and started to Bhagalpur. We reached and took rest at our uncle’s house, we sent our vehicle to pick-up our relatives in town, we all reached the hotel in evening, little late then the scheduled time.

I got ready then pandit ji has started the pooja-archna first me and then Madhu has done, all gifts bought from both side has been exchanged.  And now we were ready for the ring-exchange ceremony, every one standing and waiting, I heard a voice “Kaun pehle pehnayega?” (who will be first to present the ring)… no answer … everyone quite.. me keeping smile on face no answer.. then some one said… “Ladies first !! All the time” so here it is… Madhu has put ring in my finger... then i put ring in her finger... wishes, laugh and claps..:)

I tell you, I don’t know where I was in this moment ; I didn’t feel this moment ; I don’t know when I have  exchanged the ring and when my status got changed SINGLE to COMMITED. Later when I realized people were giving blessings…and we were sitting on chairs with camera flashes every where…

Me and Madhu …

The Washer man and the Foolish Donkey.

To refresh your memory, and for the benefit of those who have not grown up listening to this moral story, it goes like this…

There was once a washer man who had a donkey and a dog. One night when the whole world was sleeping, a thief broke into the house, the washer man was fast asleep but the donkey and the dog were awake. The dog decided not to bark since the master did not take good care of him and wanted to teach him a lesson. The donkey got worried and said to the dog that if he doesn't bark, the donkey will have to do something himself. The dog did not change his mind and the donkey started braying loudly. Hearing the donkey bray, the thief ran away, the master woke up and started beating the donkey for braying in the middle of the night for no reason.

Moral of the story " One must not engage in duties other than his own"

Now take a new look at the same  story…

The washer man was a well educated man from a premier management institute. He had the fundas of looking at the bigger picture and thinking out of the box. He was convinced that there must be some reason for the donkey to bray in the night. He walked outside a little and did some fact finding, applied a bottom up approach, figured out from the ground realities that there was a thief who broke in and the donkey only wanted to alert him about it. Looking at the donkey's extra initiative and going beyond the call of the duty, he rewarded him with lot of hay and other perks and became his favorite pet. The dog's life didn't change much, except that now the donkey was more motivated in doing the dogs duties  as well. In the annual appraisal the dog managed a " meets requirement" . Soon the dog realized that the donkey is taking care of his duties and he can enjoy his life sleeping and lazing around. The donkey was rated as " star performer". The donkey had to live up to his already high performance standards. Soon he was over burdened with work and always under pressure and now is looking for a job rotation…

Lesson from Life..

“Challenge is something that pushes you up.

Life is not just a routine affair.

Its a goal to be achieved a challenge to be met.

we give our best to get what we like.

or else we will be made like what we get.”

“It breaks your heart to see the one you love is happy with someone else,

But its more painful to know that the one you love is unhappy with you.”
